Forbes Publisher, Rich Karlgaard To Give Keynote Address

January 14, 2014, Bakersfield, Calif., — The Fourteenth Annual Kern County Economic Summit will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The DoubleTree by Hilton, Bakersfield. Organizers have announced that Rich Karlgaard, will serve as Keynote Speaker at the event.

“We are ecstatic to have someone of Rich’s caliber to serve as our Keynote Speaker,” said Richard Chapman, president and CEO of the Kern Economic Development Corporation, which co-presents the Kern County Economic Summit with the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce and California State University, Bakersfield. “Having the publisher of Forbes Magazine in Bakersfield gives our local business community a critical analysis of the role our elected officials in Washington play in directing the national business online casino nbso climate.”

Rich Karlgaard is the publisher of Forbes—the world”s most popular business and financial magazine, read by 5.5 million people per issue. He also is the author of the book, Life 2.0, which was a Wall Street Journal business best seller.

In every issue of Forbes magazine, Karlgaard writes a column called “Innovation Rules” which covers economic and technology trends, business transformation and conversations with leading CEOs. He frequently lectures on these subjects and is a regular panelist on the Fox News Channel”s Forbes on Fox, seen by 1.2 million households each Saturday. Karlgaard also appears on CNBC”s Kudlow & Co. and writes columns for The Wall Street Journal op-ed page.

Karlgaard is an accomplished entrepreneur. He has started two magazines, Upside and Forbes ASAP; one venture capital firm, Garage Technology Ventures and Silicon Valley”s leading civic organization, the 6,500-member Churchill Club. For the latter, Karlgaard was a co-winner of the Ernst & Young Northern California “Entrepreneur of the Year” award.

Karlgaard was raised in Bakersfield’s “Sister City” of Bismarck, North Dakota and graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Political Science. He is an angel investor and sits on several corporate boards.
